Roseland Plumbing and Heat Pumps

What is the Boiler Upgrade scheme?

As the name suggests, the scheme is aimed at existing properties, encouraging the switch from fossil fuel boilers to low-carbon heat pumps however, if you are building a new property, you can also apply as long as you supply evidence of self-funding and ownership.

The government recognises that air-source and ground source heat pumps play an important role in reducing carbon emissions from the UK’s homes. Therefore, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers an upfront voucher of £7,500 towards the installation of an air source or ground source heat pump, helping to reduce the overall cost.

Effective from 21st July 2026, the UK government introduced a temporary funding boost for specific homeowners in England and Wales transitioning to clean energy.

What changed?

  • Higher Grant Amount: The maximum grant increases to £9,000 (up from £7,500) for eligible properties.
  • Targeted Eligibility: This uplift applies strictly to off-gas-grid properties replacing fossil fuel systems like oil or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with an air-source or ground-source heat pump.
  • Time-Limited Window: The £9,000 rate is temporary and will run from 21 July 2026 until 31 March 2027

What stayed the same?

  • Standard Properties: Homes switching from standard mains gas or direct electric heating will still receive the existing £7,500 grant.
  • Installer-Led Process: Customers do not apply directly. An MCS-certified installer handles the Ofgem application and discounts the grant value directly from the final quote.

The scheme is open to domestic and non-domestic properties in England and Wales.

New build properties are not eligible for the scheme, with the exception of self-builds that have never been owned by a business or organisation. The application process is different as the homeowner is required to provide evidence of self funding and ownership to secure the grant.

How the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Works: A Guide for Homeowners

Getting your government grant is simple because Roseland Plumbing and Heat Pumps does all the heavy lifting. You do not need to apply for the funding yourself or pay the full amount upfront.

Here is exactly how the process works from start to finish:

Step 1: Get Your Professional Quote

As an MCS-certified installer, Roseland Plumbing and Heat Pumps will visit your property, assess your heating needs, and provide a comprehensive, tailored quote for your new heat pump system.

Step 2: See the Discount Directly on Your Quote

We check your eligibility and apply the government grant discount directly to your quote. You will see it listed as a clear, deducted line item:

    • -£9,000 if your property is off the gas grid and you are replacing an old oil or LPG system.
    • -£7,500 if you are switching from standard mains gas or electric heating.

Step 3: Pay Only the Remaining Balance

You only pay the net amount left over after the grant has been taken off. You never have to pay the full price upfront and wait to get reimbursed by the government.

Step 4: We Handle the Paperwork (Your Action Needed)

Once you accept our quote, Roseland Plumbing and Heat Pumps will apply for the grant voucher via Ofgem on your behalf.

Important: To avoid delays or cancellation of your grant, customers are expected to respond to Ofgem’s emails in a timely manner. Your prompt confirmation is required to lock in your funding.

Step 5: Expert Installation and Final Sign-Off

Our team will install your new eco-friendly heating system. Once the work is complete, we submit the final paperwork to Ofgem. The government then pays the grant amount directly to us to cover the upfront discount we gave you.
